It should be stressed again how difficult this game was. This debut game is notable in that, prior to the Arc Welding of Rayman Origins, this and its sequel Rayman 2: The Great Escape, were almost completely separate in terms of tone, content and even gameplay, being much more lighthearted and childish, as well as more difficult, and having a much lighter story and smaller cast. Dark (who has stolen the Great Protoon and thus has thrown the world into chaos), and frees the imprisoned Electoons from their cages, all while learning new abilities from the benevolent Betilla the Fairy along the way. When asked why Rayman wasn't invited to the party, the game's creative director confirmed that Rayman and the Rabbids were considered part of different universes.The game is a not-so-typical side-scrolling platformer, where Rayman has to travel across several expansive worlds as he battles the forces of the evil Mr. The game was able to mash up Mario, Rabbids, and turn-based tactical gameplay into a coherent experience that spawned an upcoming sequel, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. That included their crossover game with the Super Mario franchise, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, which was released on the Switch in 2017. The Raving Rabbids series, which began life as a 2006 mini-game collection on the Wii, eventually became so popular that it ditched Rayman entirely to become their own thing. However, while Rayman platformers have been few and far between, it doesn't mean the franchise has been completely fallow. It would be followed by 2013's Rayman Legends, the last original game in the series to date.
