
Tanks are mostly the frontliners, while heroes have special abilities that can lead an entire unit to battle. Grunts are the melee attackers, while snipers have long-ranged attacks. There are a lot of different types of units.

Now that you have already gathered enough units through exploring the map, it is time to learn how to adapt to specific situations in the game. Move a unit towards that image, and it will help increase the number of units that you can recruit. To increase the unit count, explore the map to find a hologram image of a marine. Players can check how many units they can recruit by the blue icon at the top left corner of the screen. At the start of the game, I can only recruit one squad or unit. One of which is to explore and reveal the map so I can see whether enemy units are coming to attack. Moving units have many different purposes in Iron Marines. Make sure to have snipers at the back row of your squad while the tanks go to the front lines. However, remember that you still need to protect your units. Once I can reveal the map, I can freely move my entire squad towards any areas of the revealed section. I think I will wait for the Kingdom Rush: Vengeance to hit the PCs.I usually use these scouts to reveal the map and then get them back into the squad as soon as possible. In all seriousness, I would much rather this game was a sci-fi tower defense (maybe with some light base-building) than what it is now.

But, since grinding is not really fun, and the mission replayability is low, the games becomes dull and repetitive at some point. This is important if you want to beat the campaign as the missions are getting exponentially harder. This way they receive more powerful abilities and become stronger overall. Another part of the grind is earning the research points which you spend on upgrading your units. All the other heroes mostly use melee attacks, and are all that much more difficult to control. What's more, after I unlocked the first few heroes, it turned out that the two base heroes are simply the best, because they use ranged weapons. The thing is, you'll unlock some of the heroes only after you've beat a good part or even the whole game, but level replayability is rather poor. You have to replay levels to develop your heroes who always start on level 1 (lvl 10 being max). Seems great, but in my experience it's just not that fun. In the meantime you have to defend and develop your bases. In each mission you control a hero and several squads of base units (soldiers, mechs or empyreals ), and you go about the map, doing stuff. Visuals and sound are top-notch as always, but the gameplay is just meh. When the game finally arrived on PCs, I made another approach and spent several evening with the game only to come to the conclusion that Ironhide Game Studio should simply stick to the Tower Defense mechanics. I tried to play it on my phone at first, but the RTS mechanics simply did not translate well to a touch screen, and the controls were clunky at best.
